Cookbook Giveaway: Vaguely Vegan

Called Pure Vegan, the book is published by Chronicle Books and is meant to show that you can eat vegan even some of the time and still have fun. I talked to the author, Joseph Shuldiner, last week and he described his intent with the cookbook — his first — this way: “A lot of people draw the line distinctly: ‘I either eat this way or only eat that way. For me personally it’s not a clear-cut hard line path. I enjoy a primarily plant-based diet, but I’m curious about food and other ingredients. The line shifts in the sand for me a lot.”
The cookbook reflects Shuldiner’s open way of looking at food. “My aim is really about providing recipes that are more inventive for vegan cooking and for vegans but also to broach the subject for people who aren’t vegans, not necessarily to convert them but to introduce them to a plant-based diet. This is about taste and lifestyle, taking off that charge around the politics of veganism and bringing people in.” Which means that it’s filled with doable recipes (beautifully photographed) and happily divided up into times of the day for eating — morning to late late night — rather than by types of foods or meals. It’s brilliant really and here’s the best part: You can win a copy! Just leave us a comment, either here or on Facebook, on why you’d like to give veganism a try and we’ll pick a random winner on Friday. Good luck!

I’d like to give this book a try because I am having difficulties finding meat-free and dairy-free recipes!
I’d love to win!
I have been vegetarian for many years, and find myself becoming more and more vegan! The more I read about the environmental effects of dairy farming, the more I seem to cut it out of my diet. I no longer drink dairy milk or eat dairy cheese, but I am having a hard time cutting out eggs, as it is one of my main go to sources of protein. This book looks like it is full of great ideas. Would love to own it!
